TYPES OF SUBMISSION
1) Research Paper
This type of paper should present original or new research findings. It could cover presentations on new concepts and provide insights on the construction or testing of a model or framework, testing of data, and with practical focus in the forms of market research or surveys, action research, empirical, and scientific research on responsible tourism. The findings could have a general impact and contribute to the development of responsible tourism. It should be between 6,000 to 9,000 words in length, which includes tables, figures and references. The paper may include the following sections:
- Introduction/Background
- Literature Review/ Theoretical Background and Hypothesis Development
- Methodology
- Results or Results and Discussions
- Discussions
- Implications of the Study
- Limitations and Future Research/ Conclusion
2) Case Study
This type of paper describes actual interventions or experiences related to responsible behaviour or action in tourism. It can be subjective and covers a description of an authentic or hypothetical case study(ies). It should focus on particular context such as the stakeholder, destination, industry or country. The aim is to make other researchers/ practitioners aware of the possibility that a specific phenomenon might occur in a different setting. Figure(s) and image(s) are allowed to enhance presentation. The length should be between 5,000 and 7,000 words, which includes tables, figures and references. The paper may include:
- Background
- Objectives
- Case 1/Study 1… (based on the context)
- Results and Discussions
- Implications/Future Agenda
3) Conceptual or Methodological Paper
Conceptual or methodological papers are two different types of publication but aim at developing ideas, frameworks, models, theories and/or methods in the forms of propositions, hypotheses and/or diagram(s). It provides a comprehensive foundation and enlightens current state of knowledge on topics or methods related to responsible tourism. However, the paper should not be a mere literature review. It should identify the gap(s) from the past literatures, and clarify how it advances theoretical and practical knowledge about responsible tourism. It should thus foster future research into new and meaningful ideas through literature review, critical reasoning and interpretation. The paper should be between 6,000 to 9,000 words in length, which includes tables, figures and references.
The format of a conceptual or methodological paper may be similar to a research paper but enjoys greater flexibility based on the content and the manner it is best presented.
4) Policy Perspective or Viewpoint
Policy perspective focuses on bringing ideas, analysis, and empirical research to topical policy issues. The paper should be reasonable and well thought-out in drawing conclusions that are applicable to important policy issues in relation to responsible tourism. It may also take the form of a briefing that provides policymakers or decision makers with an overview of the issues with key insights from the international policy, or targeted critical findings and actionable recommendations. The paper should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words in length. The paper may include Introduction/Background, Problem Statements, Methods/Analysis, Findings and Recommendations, and Conclusion.
Viewpoint is based on the author’s opinion and interpretation in the content related to responsible tourism, such as journalistic and magazine-style pieces. This paper is designed to deliver readers with a context of responsible tourism practice by providing credible and meaningful summaries, debates and discussions. It should contain insights, explanations, and opinions grounded in evidence. Hence it should provide well-structured arguments and demonstrates a clear understanding of the key issues under discussion. The length should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words. Authors are encouraged to cite up to 15 references in support of their key assertions. The paper can include figure(s) and image(s) to enhance presentation. The paper may include Background – basis of arguments and why it is relevant/important now and Subtitles – concise text summing up the main points.
5) Technical Paper
Technical paper describes and evaluates techniques or services related to responsible tourism. In particular, it defines and examines responsible products, procedures or services in relation to tourism. The paper is expected to have practical implications with great importance to the society. It can be divided into sections to provide various levels of detail to different readers. The layout of a technical paper typically consists of Introduction/Background, Procedures, Results and Discussion, and Conclusion (a succinct and logical summary). Subtitles based on the topic and context are welcome. It is between 3,000 to 6,000 words in length, which includes tables, figures and references.
6) Research Notes
Research notes are shorter, not full academic papers, but are discussion notes that aim to address a specific issue, a new idea, theoretical perspective, or methodological approach in responsible tourism studies. For instance, the research notes may provide new empirical evaluations of existing important and relevant theoretical propositions. Alternatively, research notes can focus on conceptual and theoretical contributions without providing new empirical evidence. Research notes can also include new descriptive analyses of fresh trends, or challenge existing understandings, or raise new questions for future responsible tourism research. Research notes are preferable between 2,000 and 4,000 words and otherwise adhere to the research articles, such as references and bibliographic information. The layout of a research note may include:

b. Main text (Use short informative headings divided into subsections)
c. Conclusion
7) Book Reviews
Book reviews are discussions of a book or a compilation of publications about responsible tourism (e.g., books, articles, anthologies, etc.). It also serves as an introduction to the publication and its comments and contributions. Book reviews are expected to introduce readers to the content of a book besides to critique and discuss the ideas presented in the book. Book reviews should be between 1000 and 1500 words and contain the following information: author(s) or editor(s) for edited books, title, publisher, year of publication, number of pages, original language of publication, resume of the content, critical evaluation how this book contributes to knowledge in the field of responsible tourism. The paper may include:

c. Critique
d. Recommendation
e. Conclusion

An original paper should be composed according to the following sections in the particular order:

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
Authors should use Times New Roman, 12 pts, throughout the manuscript. All text should be single-spaced.
Heading 1
For heading 1, use 12pts, Times New Roman, in bold. Insert one blank line (12 pts) before and after heading 1.
Heading 2
For heading 2, use 12pts, Times New Roman, in Bold Italic. Insert one blank line (6 pts) before and after heading 2.
Heading 3 (and others)
For heading 3, use 12pts, Times New Roman, in Italic. Insert one blank line (6 pts) before and after heading 3.
TABLES AND FIGURES
Figure(s)
Figures may include photographs, illustrations, multi-colour graphs, and flowcharts. All figures must be inserted in the appropriate position in the manuscript. Authors should number figures consecutively based on their appearance in the main text. Figure caption and description should be inserted below the figure body. Figures should be high resolution (200 dpi, minimum). For Figure caption, use 10pts, Times New Roman, center align.
Table(s)
Table(s) should be self-explanatory and clearly organized. Table(s) must be inserted in the correct position in the manuscript, must include a clear title and numbered in Arabic numerals. For table text, use 11pts, Times New Roman. For table title, use 10pts, Times New Roman, left align. Table(s) should be formatted per the following style.
REFERENCE
JRTM recommends APA (American Psychological Association) sixth reference format. The author-date (name, date) method of in-text citation. For example, (Saks, 2006), and a full reference should appear in the reference list at the end. For the reference list, use 12pts, Times New Roman, justified.
